Before her marriage she taught school in Deleau and Hartney, Manitoba,
Canada. As of 2002 there is nothing left of Deleau. except in people's
memoires. Among those with a memory of Delau is Arliss Dellow (Go to
the index to find out more about Arliss and his family). While visiting
Margaret Velma Shillington in Deleau, Arliss saw television for the
first time. He was standing outside on the street on a wintry
evening,with a couple of girls from Pipestone, Manitoba, watching Elvis
Presley on a flickering screen through the hardware store window back
about 1955 or '56. The good old Ed Sullivan show.

Notes for GERALD WILLIAM SHILLINGTON:
In the early 1950's the family moved to Santa Barbara, California which
was about 80 miles from Oxnard, the home of Ernest Shillington. In an
email dated September 19, 2004 Alan Gray, provided this
additional information:
I was interested to see your very detailed
Shillington Family History. I was born in Winnipeg in 1929 and Irene
(Knowles) Shillington rented rooms in our house during the war while
Gerald was overseas serving in the army - she had her first little boy
at the time whom you probably know turned out to be not
quite right and stayed on in a home in Brandon or someplace even after
Irene and Gerald moved to Santa Barbara. But Irene visited him at least
once a year I believe. Coincidentally my parents, Frank and
Florence Gray also moved to Santa Barbara and there resumed their
acquaintance with Irene. I saw her there also while
visiting. As I recall Gerald was in the auto business. Both
Irene and my mother worked in retail stores in Santa Barbara.
Irene's older son, Brian, wanted to be a golf pro at some point but I
lost track of them when my father died in 1968 and my mother moved to
Phoenix.

Notes for EDWARD "NED" BLAIN SHILLINGTON:
He graduated with with a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Law from
the University of Saskatchewan in 1967, He practiced law in Moosomin,
Saskatchewan from 1968 to 1971. In 1971 he was an unsuccessful
candidate for the New Democratic Party of Saskatchewan in the 1971
Saskatchewan
provincial election. On November 1, 1971 he moved to Regina,
Saskatchewan,
Canada to accept a position of Executive Assistant to Roy John
Romanow.,
the Deputy Premier, as he then was. He held that position from 1971 to
1975. In 1975 he was elected to the Saskatchewan Legislature. He was
re-elected
in 1978, 1982, 1986, 1991, and 1995. . He served as a Member of the
Legislative
Assembly (M.L.A.) for 24 consecutive years. When he retired he
was
the Dean of the Saskatchewan Legislature, the M.L.A. with the longest
period of continuous service. During that period he was a Cabinet
Minister for 10 years, holding 11 different portfolios. He retired in
1999 and accepted a position with PricewaterhouseCoopers as Managing
Director of Management Consulting Services for Saskatchewan. On June 1,
2000 he and his wife Sonia moved to Calgary and accepted the
position
of Vice-President of Points West Communications Ltd in
Charge
of the Alberta Region. On May 31, 2001, he resigned from that
position
and began to operate as a private trader in the securities market.
In the late eighties and early ninties Ned began to expereince
difficulty in walking. He was eventually diagnosed as having a cauda
noma tumour in his spinal cord. He had an operation on April 3, 1997.
The operation was unsuccessful and he was confined to a wheelchair
as
a paraplegic. With the passage of time he was able to adjust his life
style
so that he now takes a full and active part in the business and
social
life of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.
Notes for SONIA SHIRLEY KOROSCIL:
Sonia was born in Buccanan, Saskatchewan, the seventh child of
Annie and John Koroscil. Her childhood was rich in the Ukrainian
culture of her family. She atttended Yorkton Collegiate in Yorkton,
Saskatchewan and was qualified as a stenographer.. She worked for the
Government of Saskatchewan as a stenographer and book keeper
before and after
her marriage. She also worked as a book keeper in the law office that
she
and Ned owned in Regina.

mathematics in Auckland, New Zealand before returng to Regina,
Saskatchewan in February 2003 to resume her teaching career in

Notes for TERRENCE HENRY SHILLINGTON:
Terrry Shillington revieved a Bachelor of Arts in 1964 and a Bachelor
of Divinity in 1967 both from the University of Saskatchewan. He
received an S.T.M. from St. Andrew's College in 1970. He did
postgraduate work in Germany. He has served as a United Church Minister
for 25 years in a
variety of communities in the Canadian Prairies:
(1)Govan, Saskatchewan
(2)The Pas, Manitoba,
(3) Brandon, Manitoba and
(4) Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada.
Terry has been a very successful minister. His sincerity
and thoughtful reflective manner has earned him considerable respect
from his peers and the warm affection of each of the
congregations
he has served.
He provided the following description of his life:
I grew up on the farm, loving all sorts of sports. Listening to
the Saskatchewan Roughriders on the radio, going to Jr. Hockey games
with my granfdather, Thomas Hobart Shillington, in Moose, Jaw,
Saskatchewan-these expereinces taught me to enjoy almost all sports as
a fan. Now in my
latter years I am a golfer, a Blue Jay fan and more. I enjoy cooking
and reading a good novel on my day off. My wife, Mary, and I enjoy
going
out for an evening meal after a busy week, savouring the food, a glass
of wine ane sharing the stories of the day and week.
From an early age I felt called to the minstry-in the United Church of
Canada. Now close to retirement I look back and see the interesting
adventures I have had in the ministry. Moving directly from high school
to University I was a pastoral minister in rural Saskatchewan at the
tender age of 25, On this life journey I was fortunate to spend 2 years
in Germany, one on a scholarship and the second serving in the German
Protestant Church.
Although a 'farm boy' and thoroughly a person of the land, I have
found that I am more fulfilled in the urban ministry. I find my gifts
of organization, recruitment and leadership work best in larger,
more liberal and creative city congregations with a wealth of programs
and lay leadership. I like to develop lay leaders and move people from
the edge of the congregation into the centre and into leadership.

Notes for MARY ROSE MCCURRAH:
Mary earned a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Brandon.
She also earned a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of
Calgary,
Lethbridge Campus in 1993 and a Masters of Social Work from the
University
of Calgary, Calgary Campus, in 1995. She did it the hard way,
after
marriage and the arrival of her two children. She has worked as a
counselor in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, since her graduation. We are
indebted
to her husband, Terry, for this description:
Mary shares many hobbies with Terry-. She, too, likes to cook and
enjoys eating as well with a glass of wine and a relaxing atmosphere.
Mary reads novels omnivorously, lunches with her friends and always
enjoys spending time with her granchildren. A delight for both of us is
to have our children and grandchildren over for Sunday night supper,
play some games
afte supper, perhaps sing and dance some songs and laugh together. She
has also given much musical leadership in each congregation we have
been
in.
Mary is a well known counselor and therapist in Lefthbridge,
specializing in grief counseling. She began in Brandon with a B.A. in
Pyschology
and with her B.S.W and M.S.W. has grown in group and individual
counseling skills. As part of her counseling practice she conducts
group therapy
for "motherless" daughters, families who have lost a loved one to
suicide
and those who find themselves alone after the death of a loved one.
Mary is also a skiled organizer and has spent her adult life organizing
as a volunteer. She presently organizes a yearly golf tournament as a
fund raiser for the Ecumenical Campus ministry here in Leftbridge.
However in any season of her life, if you find Mary, she will be
organizing something.
