He learned blacksmithing from his brother-in-law, James Morris at
Warwick Village, Ontario, Canada. Later he worked in Watford, Ontario,
Canada as a carriage blacksmith until he moved to Detriot to set
up his own shop. His skill on high class carriages and cutters was well
recognized. He was fond of music and was a good singer, a talent of
which he gave freely.

Notes for ALBERT E. KERFOOT:
As a child of six he had made the long trek westward to Warwick Village
with his family. He left the farm home when he was eighteen and
was apprenticed to a carriage maker at Watford, Ontario, Canada.
Sometime after completing his apprenticeship he helped some carpenters
build a house in Watford. Though this experience he was able to
negotiate a contract to build a house for a man in Miami, Florida, then
a small village. The contract
include his travelling expenses. Thereafter he moved to Mt. Dora in the
centre of the state. On November 29, 1899 he traveled to Atlanta,
Georgia and married Alice Essex, whom he had met at Detriot, where he
had
spent a short time with his brother, Richard. Alice was a Canadian who
had
been born at London, Ontario. They made their home in Miami,
which
by that time was undergong rapid expansion. He mde his living building
houses
during the expansion. In 1904 he took a homestead in the town of
Princeton,
25 miles north of Miami. In his seventies he build a house for a
daughter
and remodelled one for another. He was fond of singing hymns and
playing
the violin. He spent his last years quietly at home tending his trees
and
plants.

After their marriage they lived on his farm in North Gower Tp, Carleton
County, Ontario, Canada. Their first six children were born
there. Sometime around 1880, they moved west, travelling by oxen from
Portage La Prairie to Carberry Plains. The rest of their children were
born there. The post office of Kerfoot, Manitoba was named after
her. The name has changed to Gregg. but as of 1953 the small church in
the district still bore her name.

She and her husband lived in Stratford, Ontario for some years and
thereafter they movd to 60 Isabelle St, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The
family plot in Avondale Cemetery, Stratford, Ontario has a large stone
monument. It bears the name of their two infant babies, Ida and Eva.

After their marriage they lived in Stratford Ontario. Then they moved
in 1879 to Toronto, where he went into business in partnership with his
brother-in-law Alex Williamson, in the wholesale woollen business.
About
11 years later he went West to Wawanesa, Manitoba where he was in the
printing
busienss and then was postmaster untill his death on May 11, 1936.He
never
told anyone what the S stood for but MB Vital stats revealed the
mystery.

Notes for WILLIAM HEBERT KERFOOT:
He was at one time a telegraph operator. Later he managed a book and
stationary store which he bought in 1892. He continued until 1945.
During this time he was also interested in and part owner of Smith
Falls Casting Company. In 1947 there was a serious fire and
the business block
in which the stationary store was located was destroyed by this fire.
The
Casting company was also damaged by the fire. He retired from business
at
that time. Following the musical tradition of the Kerfoots, he
was
musical director for many years at Trinity United Church, in Smith
Falls. In 1953 he and his wife travelled to England and the
continent. The highlight of the trip was the coronation of Queen
Ellizabeth on June 2, 1953. He wondered how many of his descendents
would be able to attend a coronation. In addition to Mabel Margaret,
there were twins who died in infancy.

Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto. Then followed a course from the
Toronto Normal School from which she gained her certificate of Primary

She made the long trek with her family from Beckwith Township to
Warwick Tp, Lambton Co. in 1869. A few years later they moved to Iowa .
Thereafter they moved to Dayton, Wellington Co and finally to North
Dakota where they were pioneers. Their three children were forn
there . In 1916 they sold the farm and moved to St. Paul, Minn., U.S.A.
Six years later they joined Armanella's brother in Ontario, California,
U.S.A.. The following is a
letter to Winnifred Mair from Armanella:
"My husband's grandfather used to preach in my grandfather's house.
My father did not remember --I don't know if he was born then, as I
have
only Uncle James Foster's letter telling me--he was sixteen years old
at
the time. So the service would be in the old log house my father was
born
in, and I remember seeing it once when four and one-half years old or
so--same farm I was born on."

Notes for B. LOUISE FOSTER:
As a young girl, after her mother's death, she went to live at the home
of a cousin, Richard Kerfoot of Smith Falls. She attended High School
there and Queen's University graduating in 1914. Then she atended
Normal School at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Then she taught for four
years in that province before she went to West China as a
missionary under the former Methodist Church in 1918. All her work from
that time until her final return to Canada in 1950 had been in
Cheentu, capital city of the Province of Szechuan. All her work had
been in Methodist Union Institutions where various missions co-operate;
Union Normal School, Women's College of the West China, Union
University and the Union Theorlogical COllege. In the latter two,
besides serving on the teaching staff she was Dean of Women for many
years.
She experienced the "liberation" of the city by the communists in 1949
and
remained for one more year, leaving her Chinese friends behind the
bamboo
curtain which in her words was "just as effective as iron". As of 1953
she
was retired, living at 1623 Robson St., Vancouver, B.C.

The following obituary was in the Welland Newspaper:
" Retired Secretary- Administrator of the Welland Board of Education
passed away, December 27, 1950. Mr Teskey had held this post
since 1942 and was forced to retire on account of ill-health. A member
of the Institute of Accredited Public Accountants, Mr Teskey was a
valued member of the School Business Officials Association of Ontario
in which he was keenly interested. He was a native of Welland and in
his youth he was for a time a newspaperman with the old Welland
Telegraph. His widow is now living
in Welland, Ontario".
His obituary was written by Gwen Phillips, a third year student
at Welland HIgh School. She was editor of the school paper at the time.
It was not until the material was organized for this genealogy in 1953
that Ms. Phillips realized she was related to Mr. Teskey. For
