Notes for JAMES ALBERT HENDERSON:
As a boy he moved with his parents to a farm at Scranton, Iowa. At first he worked hauling clay to a tile factory and his wife continued to teach.  After a year they were able to establish themselves on a farm three miles south of Scranton, Iowa. Five years later they moved into Scranton and James, always a lover of horses set up a livery barn. He farmed in Nebraska and Saskatchewan (Elmore District). He retired in 1932 and went to live in Sherwood,North Dakota.

His daughter in law, Winnifred Fitch contributed this poem for their golden wedding anniversary;

Fifty years together and we've travelled along life's way,
Since we were wed in eighty-five that late December day.
Our thought oft turn to Iowa, where as boy and girl we met,
Those friends, those scenes, those carefree days, we never can forget.

And far the trail has led us through years of loss and gain,
From the cornfields of Nebraska to the lonely Western plain.
Where the prairie rolled unbroken as far as the eye could view
Here, filled with hopes of pioneers we started life anew.

For the wheat lands promised plenty with their soil of rich black loam,
And now for more than thirty years we've called this country home.
Though at times the way was hard and some of the years were lean,
We've never missed the riches that are worth the while to glean.

For now we are rich in friendships, and blessed with health beside:
The children that we bore and loved all round us here abide
Our circle is unbroken, though half a century's passed
May we travel toward the sunset together, till the last.

Her mother died when she was a child. The following anecdote illustrates her childhood in the middle of the last century  as well as the bonds that developed between her and her sister Eliza.  There was not enough room at the table for everyone to sit down at once and the three girls had to take turns eating.   Deborah  who was older persuaded the two younger girls that it would be the same if they waited and let Deborah go first everytime. Then the two yonger girls who were close could eat together.  When Deborah went to Watford to learn dressmaking. Lydia and Eliza had to do all the housework including making all the meals.  This continued until Lydia was married. When she died at an early age she left a husband and three small children.

John M.Morris was a school teacher at Charing Cross, Ontario when he married Eliza Kerfoot on December 25, 1882.  After his wife's death in 1929 he gathered the material for this family tree. In the days before email and affordable long distance telephone service it was exhausting, time-consuming work requiring enormous patience and perserverance. He died without completing it. His daughter Winifred Mair (No. 193) completed the work and published the book 'The Kerfoot Family History' in 1953. This Shillington-Kerfoot Family Tree is largely composed from the information contained in that book.
